A Christian Exploration of Work, Technology, & Engaged Living
“[L]ike the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.” -Isaiah 65:22
My name is Joshua Klein. I am a Christian man interested in the intersection of human life, reformed theology, and the nature of craftsmanship and technology. I serve as the Associate Fellow in Mechanical Arts at Greystone Theological Institute and as a ruling elder at Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) in Bangor, Maine. The OPC subscribes to the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.
I feel compelled to provide the customary disclaimer that the views and thoughts shared here are my own and are not necessarily endorsed by the Orthodox Presbyterian Church or Greystone Theological Institute. “The Work of Our Hands” is a place for me to think out loud in my journey – I invite your thoughtful feedback. I can be contacted at Joshua.klein.en.christo@gmail.com.
Lastly, for those interested in such details, I am editor of Mortise & Tenon Magazine and have written for or presented to various organizations over the years including The Yale University Art Gallery, Colonial Williamsburg, Old Sturbridge Village, Wilson Museum, The Jonathan Fisher House, The Maine Forest and Logging Museum, Fine Woodworking, Popular Woodworking, and American Period Furniture. My first book, Hands Employed Aright: The Furniture Making of Jonathan Fisher (1768-1847), was published by Lost Art Press in 2018. I am also author of Another Work is Possible (Mortise & Tenon 2020), Joined: A Bench Guide to Furniture Joinery (Mortise & Tenon, 2020), and Worked: A Bench Guide to Hand-Tool Efficiency (Mortise & Tenon 2022).
I live on the Maine coast with my wife and three sons.
